The department of Nutrition and Dietetics was incepted in the year 1983. The undergraduate programme in Nutrition and Dietetics includes the complete study of basic components of foods; their nutrients chemistry and metabolism; technology involved in food processing and preservation; food safety; functional food and nutrigenomics; meal planning, quantity food production and therapeutic dietary modifications with a focus on human health and well-being. Nutrition is the foundation for good health that is a vital component of national development. The department is making concerted efforts to achieve the national goal of “Health for All” through its continuous societal outreach activities in the rural areas serving the women and children, there by realizing the vision of our esteemed institution. Since its inception, the department has directed its activities towards development of the community to shape the prospective academicians, administrators, researchers, entrepreneurs and health conscious citizens.

Department
- As part of the National Nutrition Month 2026 celebrations, an intercollegiate tech fest titled “Nutrevia ’26”, with the theme “The New Era of Nutrition”, was organized on 18.09.2026, with participation from students of Nutrition and Dietetics from various colleges
- Swachh cleaning activities were organized for students of all three years at Arulmigu Sri Saptharishishwarar Temple, Lalgudi; Magha Mariyamman Temple, Lalgudi; and Mathavaayi Amman Temple, Nachikurichi, Tiruchirappalli, promoting cleanliness, hygiene, and social responsibility
- As part of the National Nutrition Month celebrations, nutrition-related information and awareness messages were shared during the college prayer assembly sessions in the first week of September to promote awareness about healthy eating, balanced nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices.
- In connection with National Nutrition Month 2026, an exhibition titled “NutriXplore 2026 – Explore, Experience, Empower” was organized on 01.09.2026
- An association meeting was conducted in collaboration with ICDS, Mannachanallur Block, on

- An outreach activity titled “A Special Day Out for Children with Special Needs” was organized at NT Pets Park, Tiruchirappalli, on 31.03.2026, in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, NCC Air Wing, The Dolphin Special School, The Seagull Special School, Tiruchirappalli, and MPR Food Products. The programme provided children with special needs an opportunity to participate in recreational and experiential activities.
- A two-day conference titled “Innovative Nutrition Strategies to Build Healthier Viksit Bharat – INSHB’26” was organized on 26.02.2026 and 27.02.2026. The conference provided a platform for sharing innovative approaches and emerging strategies in nutrition and health. A book publication was also undertaken as part of the conference.

- As a part of its Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, organized an exhibition titled “Nutriverse” on 24.12.2025 with the active participation of first, second, and third year students.
- The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics organized a National Level Online poster competition titled “Eat Right, Live Bright” on 23.11.2025.
- The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, organised a millet flour distribution activity under the title “Wonder Millets for Healthy Pooja” on 1.10.2025 at the department premises.
- The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, organised a “Workshop on Baking” on 29.9. 2025 as part of the observance of National Nutrition Month. The program was held under the national theme “Eat Right for a Better Life
- A special intra-departmental event was organised under the theme “Eat Right for a Better Life” on 25.9.2025 to mark National Nutrition Month. As part of the observance, a cookery competition was conducted for the III B.Sc. students, a slogan writing competition for II B.Sc. and I B.Sc. students took part in a drawing competition,
- In collaboration with RA Foods and Abra Farms, the department organised “Nutri Millet Bonanza 2025” on 23.9.2025 and 24.9.2025 to students and faculty members of our college.
- The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics hosted an intercollegiate event on 17.9.2025. A total of five interesting competitions were conducted during the event. These included Nutri Hunt, Nutri Debate, Nutri Rangoli, Nutri Detection & Nutri Chef.
- Srushti Park is an interactive event organised by the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics & Entrepreneurial Development Cell on “Demonstration of millet-based recipes” to parent on 16.9.2025.
- Department of Nutrition and Dietetics organized an inspiring guest lecture on “Campus to Startup” delivered by Mrs. Geetha Saravanan, an entrepreneur on 11.8.2025.
- A special lecture on “Entrepreneurial Avenues for Young Minds” by Dr. J. Daniel Chellappa, an eminent nuclear scientist from Chennai on 30.7.2025 was conducted by the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics along with the Entrepreneurial Development Cell.
- An association meeting titled "Clinical Perspectives of Hepatitis" was imparted by Dr. A. Ganesh Raja, Associate Professor of Medicine, Pudukottai on 28.7.2025.
- The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics organized an alumna lecture series as part of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations on 16.7.2025, which featured a lecture titled “Exploring Opportunities in Dietetics and Nutritional Science”. The keynote lecture was presented by Ms.Manimegalai Sakthivel, M.Sc., M.Phil., RD, Chief Dietitian, Senior Lecturer, and DQM from the Department of Dietetics at Christian Medical College, Vellore.
- A two-day workshop titled “Shining Stars: Celebrating Ability and Creativity” was organized on
12.06.2025 for children and 13.06.2025 for parents/guardians, focusing on creativity,
participation, and skill development.

- The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, in collaboration with in SRUSHTI – SRC Skill Park, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Institution's Innovation Council, Entrepreneurial Development Cell and People's Development Initiatives, organized a Hands-on Training on the Preparation of Millet Biscuits on 15.02.2025 for self-help group members
- Nutrition Zestival Intercollegiate Techfest was organised on 31.01.2025 at Manicka Vinayagar Open-Air Theatre. Fireless Cooking, Nutri Rangoli, Vegetable Carving, Poster Presentation, and Nutri Quiz competitions were conducted
- A National Level Virtual Meal Planning Competition, BENTO BLITZ: Creative Meal Making Challenge through AI competition was organised on 27.01.2025. The theme was “Fuel on the Go: Creative and Nutritious Bento Boxes for College Students”
- A special lecture was organised by the association in connection with National Youth Day 2025 on 08.01.2025. Ms. P.Geethanjali delivered the lecture on “Healthy Youth, Healthy Nation: Empowering a Clean and Hygienic Future”
- To celebrate International Health Coverage Day 2024, association organised a special lecture on “Forest And Food” Sustaining Tribal Health And Nutritional Heritage on 17.12.2024. The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. M. Sangareswari, Publicity Officer (Forest Range Officer) forestry extension centre, Perambalur division
- On International Cookie Day 2024, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics’ association organised a talk on “Vision to Victory – A Motivational Session with a Successful Entrepreneur” on 29.11.2024. Mrs. Vishnu Priya Chellasamy shared her success story as the founder of Zhagaram Bakes
