Profile

The department of Tamil established in 1979, offers B.A.Tamil as an undergraduate programmme under the aided section. Part I Tamil is offered for the first year and second year undergraduate students, to make them understand and internalize the importance of Tamil which is an ancient classical language existing in both the oral and written forms. It is one of the earliest languages that is recognized as ‘Semmozhi’ among the world languages. Tamil literature is a compendium of Bhakthi life style, modern science and architecture.


Goals
  • To create an awareness about the richness of the Tamil literature and grammar
  • To impart the historical importance and contemporary relevance of Tamil culture and heritage
  • To impart value based education through Tamil literature
  • To enhance the employability skills of the students
Objectives
  • To teach Tamil literature and grammar from Sangam literature to Modern Age
  • To create social awareness by including papers on Feminism and Human Rights
  • To Include papers to enhance employability skills
  • To enrich general knowledge and to develop creativity

  • The department conducts Founder’s Birthday Intercollegiate debate competition every year
  • Intra department competitions like Padaipilakkiya Peravai - Poem Competition, Thiruvalluvar Mandram - Thirukkural Oral Competition and Bharathiyaar Mandram - Speech Competition, Pavai Mandram - Pavai Padalkal recitation, Bharathidasan Mandram - Quiz are conducted every year
  • Makkal Thagaval Thodarbiyal a Newspaper for internal Circulation is Published by the Students every year
  • III Year Tamil major students prepare handcrafted exhibits for the course on Nattuppuraviyal (Folklore)
  • Students prepare the script for ‘Oranga Nadagam’ as part of Part I Tamil course and also stage the plays
  • Sitrithazh an annual in-house journal is published by the students since 2009
  • Students are taken to cultural and religious heritage centres for the course on Tamilaga Varalarum Panpadum

  • III B.A.Tamil students won the prizes in Inter collegiate level Competition held at St.Joseph’s College, Trichy.
  • Ms.V.Parameshawari appreciated for getting Guinness Record Award for her Silambam presentation.
  • II & III B.A.Tamil students won the prizes in Inter collegiate level Competition held at Urumu Dhanalakshmi College, Trichy.
  • III year students have won the Rolling shield in Inter College Drama Competition in St.Joseph’s College, Trichy 10.03. 2020
