Profile

The department of Nutrition and Dietetics was incepted in the year 1983. The undergraduate programme in Nutrition and Dietetics includes the complete study of basic components of foods; their nutrients chemistry and metabolism; technology involved in food processing and preservation; food safety; functional food and nutrigenomics; meal planning, quantity food production and therapeutic dietary modifications with a focus on human health and well-being. Nutrition is the foundation for good health that is a vital component of national development. The department is making concerted efforts to achieve the national goal of “Health for All” through its continuous societal outreach activities in the rural areas serving the women and children, there by realizing the vision of our esteemed institution. Since its inception, the department has directed its activities towards development of the community to shape the prospective academicians, administrators, researchers, entrepreneurs and health conscious citizens.

  • In connection with World Cancer Day on “Why Cancer” highlighting the role of millets in cancer prevention 08.02.2023.
  • Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and SEERA’s Diet Clinic organized Basic Manufacturing Certificate Course in collaboration with Tiruchirappalli District Administration and Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department on 28.01.2023.
  • Organized a meeting on 21.01.2023 on the topic Mighty millets and 3A’s recommended by Indian Dietetics Association.
  • Special lecture was organised on the topic Spice O Chemicals to commemorate National Nutrition Week celebration on 15.12.2022.
  • Novel jewellery making contest on the concept of "spice deck" was conducted on 13.12.2022.
  • In connection with International Women’s Day, One Day Workshop on “Happy Parenting” was organized on 08.03.2022.
  • The department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Music and Centre for Ethics and Human Values jointly organized an event “CONNECT” for children with special needs belonging to The Dolphin Special School and Centre and The Sea Gull Special School on 02.09.2022.
