Profile

The department of Mathematics is an illustrious and pioneering department of the college. In 1957, UG degree was started and the department was elevated to the status of postgraduate department in 1963, being the first women’s institution in Tiruchirappalli to offer M.Sc. Mathematics. The department started offering M. Phil. Mathematics in the year 1999.The department attained the status of a research department in 2012. It is committed to provide quality education in Mathematics that forms the basis for many fields. The department celebrated its diamond jubilee year in 2017. It is one of the DST-FIST sponsored departments. The department has produced a good number of rank holders in Madras University and Bharathidasan University. The department is taking part in socially relevant problems by joining hands with Consumer Protection Council and UNICEF Grammalaya.

An Endowment Lecture on “Basic Concepts in Astronomy” was delivered by Dr. K. Thilakam, Former Head of the Department of Mathematics, PG & Research Department of Mathematics, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, Trichy – 2. on 11.8.22.
Organized an one day seminar on “Applications of Fuzzy Theory and Differential equations” on 08.04.2022. Dr. V. LAKSHMANA GOMATHI NAYAGAM, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Mathematics, National Institute of Technology, Trichy, delivered a lecture on “Total ordering on Fuzzy Numbers and its Applications” and Dr. A. TAMILSELVAN, Professor & Head, Department of Mathematics and Chair, School of Mathematical Sciences, Bharathidasan University, Trichirappalli delivered a lecture on the topic “Singularly Perturbed Differential Equations” on 08.04.2022
In connection with Blaise Pascal’s Birthday, PG & Research Department of Mathematics organized MATHMO’22 - A National level competition on “APPLICATIONS OF MATHEMATICS - MODEL PREPARATION” which was held on 30.05.2022 through virtual mode
